Michael W. Kalcheim concentrated his practice exclusively in the field of family law. Mr. Kalcheim was one of the preeminent matrimonial attorneys in the State of Illinois. He focused his practice on the trial and settlement of complex divorce cases. He represented leaders or the spouses of leaders from business, professional, entertainment and sports communities. He was a prolific author and recognized authority on the impact of nonmarital wealth, vested options, executive compensation and benefits and on the distribution of property and the award of maintenance and child support. His areas of particular interest included: evaluation and disposition of marital assets where closely-held corporations are part of the marital estate; tracing and proving non-marital estates; interrelation between individual and close corporations where employee benefits are integrated and made part of standard of living; analysis of tax ramifications and tax planning for maintenance and child support awards; evaluation and disposition of stock options; developments and trends in equitable distribution legislation; and pre-nuptial agreements. Mr. Kalcheim was a guest lecturer at continuing legal education seminars and other seminars on family law topics before bar and accounting associations. He consistently delivered innovative proactive representation to provide his clients the highest level of satisfaction.
